I, Michelle Oliver, am a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. Mary Kay, the woman who founded the Mary Kay company, truly believed that if you remove competition between women, there would be no limit to how successful they could become. Women empowering women is a strong ideology within the Mary Kay community. We uplift each other and we also try our best to uplift our local community too. With this in mind, I would like to empower and celebrate entrepreneurial women in our community by having them share their story of success. My hope is that this will inspire other women, young and old, to follow their dreams.
Leanne Gossner Jackson is the proud owner of Paws On Gresham. She offers dog training, boarding, pet sitting, and dogs’ day out. Her business is based mostly in Gresham and the surrounding areas. She enjoys taking dogs to Thousand Acres Park and training dogs in social settings which allows dogs and their owners to not have anxiety around spending time together in public. She has always had a passion for animals at a young age and felt a calling to dogs since the beginning. She has experience with training service dogs for people who suffer with PTSD through K9s For Warriors. She has also been formally trained with South Eastern Guide Dogs.
Leanne decided to start her business after she realized that she could make more money working for herself. By keeping her son with her while she works, she eliminated the cost of daycare. She is proud to teach her son good work ethic and how to have a healthy relationship with dogs. Although she feels extremely blessed by her business, she has faced some hardship. One major obstacle she has been able to overcome is the fear of coming up short with a fluctuating income. This had forced her to press into God, to fully trust in Him and know in her heart that only He provides. By holding fast to her faith, she has seen her business grow exponentially in the passed year. She said, “It’s hard, but I had to learn not to stress over things I can’t control”. Leanne believes that the formula for a successful business is God first, family second, and career third. This balance is so important, because if you lose sight of one of those three elements, you will crash which will cause your business to suffer. She advises, “Be patient with the Lord, He will make it all come together at the perfect time”.
Leanne hopes that her business will impact the community by unifying people to come together through the love families have for their dogs. Teaching dogs how to interact with people in society and pubic situations will help humans lower their anxiety about bringing their dogs into the world so they can fully enjoy their lives together. She also hopes to inspire the next generation of girls to follow their dreams. She believes that the only time you truly fail is when you lose the will to succeed. She expresses the importance of listening to your calling. If you don’t know what your calling is, ask God and He will show you. God has gifted you with that calling for a reason and if you follow it, your life will fall into place beautifully.
The next step for Paws On Gresham is to open a new facility in the Gresham area which will allow for both indoor and outdoor dog training. Leanne hopes to have child care provided so the dog owners can work side by side in training their pet with as much focus as possible to insure the dog’s success. The dream is also to have a café to bring a relaxing environment for owners so they can enjoy spending time, watching their dogs play. Leanne is looking to network with people in the community to raise funds to get this facility up and running.
